Maths Outdoors

By the simple act of chalking numbers on the floor today, the children and I created an exciting maths game. I began by writing the numbers 1-9 on the floor, Noah helped by telling me which number to write next. The game developed into throwing hula hoops on to the numbers to see who could get it on the greatest number. It was hard to throw the hula hoops and most missed but Dylan made a fantastic throw on to the number 5! The children then developed the game further by rolling the tyres onto the numbers although this was hard because they kept rolling, because the playground is on a slope! Tomorrow may be we will develop the game further. I wonder how we could solve the problem of the rolling tyres?
